Pennsylvania's highly anticipated trout season begins on Saturday, April 5, at 8 a.m. Anglers can look forward to catching up to five fish daily, each measuring at least seven inches. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) will stock approximately 3.2 million adult trout in 691 streams and 130 lakes across the state, including rainbow, brown, and brook trout, as well as 72,000 trophy-sized fish and 14,000 golden rainbow trout.

The PFBC has made the 2025 adult trout stocking schedule available online, allowing anglers to plan their trips in advance. According to PFBC Director Brian Niewinski, "Anticipation is already beginning to build for the many spring fishing opportunities just around the corner here in Pennsylvania."

The season kicks off with Mentored Youth Trout Day on March 29, where anglers aged 15 and under can fish with a licensed adult. Youth participants need a free Mentored Youth Fishing Permit or a $2.97 Voluntary Youth License. Michael Parker, PFBC spokesman, emphasized the importance of checking the stocking schedule to ensure a successful outing.

To participate in trout fishing, anglers aged 16 and older must have a fishing license and a trout permit. These can be purchased online through the HuntFishPA portal. The PFBC, a user-funded agency, relies on license sales to support its operations.
